Hemp Boost (60 Count)
Hemp Boost is Nutritional Frontiers’ newest professional-grade hemp product. Hemp is a form of Cannabis sativa that is legally grown for agricultural purposes and by law has less than 0.3% THC by weight. Hemp botanical extracts are made from the aerial parts of the plant, including flower, leaf, bud, and stalk. Hemp extracts are sometimes preferred by doctors and patients over CBD because the extract contains a full spectrum of the plant's naturally-occurring phytocannabinoids, whereas CBD (cannabidiol) is just one isolated component from the hemp plant. Hemp contains over one hundred different phytocannabinoids, each of which binds to different receptors that directly or indirectly interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system.
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) was discovered in 1992 by Israeli scientist Raphael Mechoulam and NIMH researchers Andrew Devane and Dr. Lumir Hanus. The ECS is a central regulatory system consisting of cannabinoid receptors, endogenous (“self-made,” i.e., made in our bodies) cannabinoid compounds, and enzymes. The ECS has been correlated with a wide range of physiological functions. Using a whole plant extract allows for a synergistic effect on the endocannabinoid system, rather than an isolate like CBD that cannot support the entire ECS.
What makes Hemp Boost unique is the ingredients that help deliver cannabinoids to the intestines largely intact, thereby allowing for more potent delivery to the circulatory system. Hemp Boost contains the addition of the Bio-Dri™ system which was designed to enable cannabinoids to reach the intestines and not be destroyed by stomach acids. Patent-pending BioDri™ encapsulates and locks the cannabinoids in long-chain polysaccharides that can only be unlocked with amylase enzymes. Once the Hemp Boost reaches the small intestine, the pancreatic enzyme amylase digests or “unlocks” the cannabinoids for easy absorption.
Another unique feature of Hemp Boost capsules is the inclusion of CannaBoost™. CannaBoost™ contains naringin (derived from citrus fruit), turmeric extract (containing standardized curcumin), and black pepper extract (BioPerine®). These ingredients act to temporarily inhibit the cytochrome P450 enzymes which are responsible for metabolizing substances in the GI tract, a process known as First Pass Metabolism. The reason why inhibiting First Pass Metabolism may be helpful is that temporarily reducing the activity of the cytochrome P450 enzyme system may help improve the bioavailability of cannabinoids by reducing the breakdown of the substances in the gastrointestinal tract.
Hemp Boost may affect how the liver metabolizes some prescription (pharmaceutical) medications taken concurrently. When adding or increasing hemp extract and CBD, the effect of some prescription medications can change. One can minimize this effect by starting with low doses, increasing in small steps, and separating doses of Hemp Boost and prescribed medications by two hours. Please be sure to consult your licensed healthcare provider and prescribing physician to best assess drug-herb interactions.
